Reprint of Clif Burnett letter to Lubbock County Republican Chairman Chris Winn
Chairman Winn,
I believe you should NOT seek re-election. Your 2 years have provided zero leadership for the conservative cause. You failed to attend city council, county commissioner or other government operations meetings. You even appointed a former precinct chair(Dusty Burrows) after he was defeated to be a party official. You let Todd Bezner virtually neglect the Young Republicans to the point where meetings were not conducted. You've allowed Irene Howell to virtually be the unelected chairwoman and she received no votes. It's also documented that you have been involved with AFIIG and they are former democrats and a prayer group with zero political science intelligence. Your lack of good judgement can not be accepted as status quo for another 2 years. It's time for you to step aside and let's move forward with a new chairman.
Cordially,
Clif Burnett

It's Socialism by IronfootMcGurk
Reprint from TalkLubbock forum
That's it? The big announcement that was going to be as big as Lubbock getting Texas Technological College back in the 20s? Hell. I am a happy Excel customer. Loved Reddy Kilowatt back in the 50s. Southwestern Public Service. NEVER an LP & L customer. And now I am an involuntary customer of a city-run company I neither respect not want to patronize. BIG BROTHER (Big City) IS A COMIN'. This is just another attempt to control all aspects of our lives. IT'S SOCIALISM!!!!!!!!Guess I am gonna have to get a wind charger and go off grid. ADDED-- The raison d'etre for LP & L was to allow Lubbock citizens the benefits of competition. We were told this for years. Oh? And now? NOW, we get to enjoy (?) the benefits of being subject to a monopoly.

Quality Medical Care In Lubbock Is A Fallacy by Clif Burnett
Editorial
Lubbock has more medical care fronts than any town its size in Texas. Clinics are in almost every strip mall and so-called hospitals are abundant. The quality of medical care is plainly put, atrocious. The cost is absurd and that's being kind. Doctors are now over medicating the elderly and not doing any preventive med. The sole goal of Lubbock medical care is to bleed medicare and other insurance programs. One hospital(Covenant) overcompensates it's non-profit board with over $6 MILLION bucks and the public hospital spends over a million bucks on employee bonuses as well as ridiculous expenditures like a $3,000 a month bar(year round) at a college football stadium(SBC Jones). Lubbock medical care has also created pharmacies everywhere for all the over medicated citizens. Lubbock is now the "pill capitol" of West Texas and it makes one wonder if some of the erratic behavior could be prescription related. Lubbock medical care has become truly alleged and that is "bad news" for all Lubbockites. Medical care in Lubbock is now about "the money".

Local republicans are in fantasy world by Clif Burnett
Editorial
Lubbock republicans and voters thereof are using the anti-Obama backlash to distract voters from the putrid(morally corrupt) condition of the republican government in Lubbock. All but 6 elected officials, not counting school boards, are republicans or incumbents who vote in republican primary. Such "big government" republicans as Tom Martin,Patti Jones,Paul Beane are getting away with higher taxes or fees as well as more regulations(codes ad.) while local activists flog the Obama Administration. Local activists like Chris Winn,Mikel Ward,Irene Howell are simply hiding behind the "Anti-Obama" movement and not "cleaning up" the "big government" mess in Lubbock that was created by local republicans. It's time to quit blaming the democrats for the republicans' "big government" mess in Lubbock.
