Worse than Hoover by Noel Harris of Corpus Christi

Reprint of Letter To Editor of Corpus Christi Caller-Times from October 25,2009

When Warren G. Harding took office in 1921, he faced a much worse recession than the one we are in now, as the nation struggled to revert to a peacetime economy after a big war. He slashed spending, cut taxes and started the greatest economic boom the nation had ever seen. When John F. Kennedy took office in 1961, he copied Harding; when Ronald Reagan took office in 1981, he copied Kennedy. Both times a decade of prosperity resulted. When Herbert Hoover took office in 1929, he took a different approach: He increased taxes, increased spending, slapped a surtax on business profits — and started the Great Depression, 12 years of the worst misery in our nation’s history. Now Barack Obama has been in office nine months, and he seems bent on being 10 times worse than Hoover; he is succeeding admirably. Someone needs to sit him down with a history book and explain the hard parts. It didn’t work in 1929, it won’t work in 2009.

Mikel Ward Brings SPARTAN from the grave

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The city's debt has nearly doubled in just three years and that has one local watchdog group concerned. Lubbock taxpayers are on the way to being $1 billion in debt according to the taxpayer watchdog group Spartan or South Plains Area Taxpayer Network. A large percentage of the city's debt is set aside to making sure water gets to Lubbock. The city says right now that $1 billion figure may be misleading. "We're just getting up there really high," says Mikel Ward and she's talking about the city's debt._____(Ann Wyatt Little/KCBD TV copy)
_____

Mikel Ward has resurrected SPARTAN from the grave. Most of her members are dead and now she's doing her "camerahound" thing by howling at city debt. Her cronies are TomMartin/Paul Beane and they have been instrumental in running up city debt for nearly 2 years. Ward/Martin/Beane are basically hypocrites in the "debt madness" at City of Lubbock.

Editor's NOTE
Ward has been seen tagging around with AFIIG but there credibility has become in question to the point where only religious rightwingnuts give them money or time of day.

Childress Hardware To Close

Lubbock,Texas - Childress Hardware is one of the remaining few retailers in downtown Lubbock, unfortunately it will soon say goodbye after serving the community for 92 years. "We really have been lucky to be able to stay down here this long, but we've had a lot of people come down to see us from all over the place, the commercial business, the county business, the city business has helped us out a lot," says owner Paul Rostad.____(Lindsey Ashcraft/Ch.34 copy/screen capture)
_____
This is the end of a era in downtown Lubbock as Childress Hardware was where "GrandDad" and "DAD" Burnett went for most hardware supplies. Childress Hardware specialized in customer service and having diversity at affordable price.
