Texas Tech releases fine print on tuition and fee increases

Here's the tuition and student fee increases breakdown released today by Texas Tech to LCR.

It's based on 15 hr. classroom schedule.

Tuition - 13.11%/$282.00+
Student Rec Fee - $10.00
Transportation Fee - $6.00
Information Technology Fee - $22.50
Library Fee- $30.00

The university is allowed to average the percent increase of all charges and then apply that figure to 10% ceiling. Kent Hance effectively raised tuition rate 13.11% on tuition but only increased other catagories enough to claim that cost of schooling went up 9.9%. This is the old "blue smoke and mirrors" Reaganomics fuzzy math. Kent Hance uses the Library Fee as a slush fund and will raid it for other departments like administration did last year for gasoline costs for university fleet.

Dawson County Appraisal District caught in property appraisal gouging scam

LAMESA, TX (KCBD) - Would your life change much if your property taxes suddenly doubled or more than doubled? "We've gone up about 225 percent," says Lamesa hotel owner Roger Hayer. He says he was stunned when he recently got his tax appraisal. Newschannel 11 caught up with him at his tax appraisal protest hearing Wednesday morning in Lamesa. He argued that since his business and two others face a new competitor coming to town, now is not the time for any tax hike. "It's making it hard to survive because the revenue is not going to keep generating as it is," says Hayer. "We have a new property coming into town. And so a lot of these old facilities are facing threats, ya know." But this story has a happy ending Mr. Hayer and the other hotel owners. They won their protest. So, their taxable values in Lamesa will stay the same as last year.____(KCBD copy and screen capture)
______

The story fails to name the Appraisal District. It's Dawson County Appraisal District in Lamesa,Texas. Norma Brock is the chief appraiser for this entity.

Church&Bar in one location

AUSTIN, Texas(AP) - A nondenominational church is conducting Sunday services in a bar and allowing dogs to attend with their owners. The City Community Church meets Sunday mornings at La Zona Rosa, a music venue and bar, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Church members say meeting in a bar and allowing dogs are ways to serve the community and make people feel comfortable. Organizers say it takes an hour and a half to make the switch from bar to church by cleaning up beer bottles and installing baby gates. Scott Harmon says when services are over "it's back to a bar." Rev. Matthias Haeusel says most dogs are well-behaved, although things got awkward when a German shepherd recently tried to eat one of the smaller dogs.
_____

Church,Bar&Grill is this unique idea that allows dogs. One ugly incident is no reason to panic. Hopefully smaller dog was not injured in the incident. Not sure about a house of worship in "hoochhound" watering hole but if lightning doesn't strike it must be OK.

Madam Dictator Karen Garza At LISD Takes Power

On her first official day as superintendent, Dr. Karen Garza said changes are coming for the Lubbock Independent School District - changes in organizational structure, in priorities, in expectations and in the focus of the district. And Garza wasn't shy about beginning her administration with an ambitious goal: "I expect this district to be a recognized district in the very near future," she said.____(Joe Gulick/AVALANCHE-JOURNAL copy and screen capture)
______

Lubbock government is now on an Affirmative Action kick and newly appointed "dictator" of LISD is now playing local media like a fiddle. Garza is a 2-bit Ph.D(three degrees, none in common sense)and now wants full media attention to feed her feminist/affirmative action ego. Karen Garza is not educated enough to know that she will be dealing with learning challenged students, parents as well as semi-educated teachers who are all responsible for the second rate school system at LISD and poorly-educated condition of most students. Karen Garza's arrogance and "I'm In Charge" attitude will get a "reality check" when she realizes that LISD and most involved at the school district are "bunch-of-dumbasses".
Karen,Turn Down Your Arrogance Factor,It's Offensive!

Editor's Note

Karen Garza will be getting over $4,000 a WEEK in salary plus benefits. Another government "Hog At The Trough"

Putrid condition at Sudan feedlot gets state agency fine

The state has fined a Sudan feedlot for letting at least 2,000 dead cattle pile up and decompose, becoming a haven for flies and foul odors. The Sudan Feedyard Inc., was fined more than $7,000 last week after inspectors with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality discovered the health violations through an August 2008 tip.____(Joshua Hull/AVALANCHE-JOURNAL)
_____

This is why so many people are concerned about animal welfare. The owners of this feedlot wasted countless dollars on these cattle and then knowingly let them die and not dispose of them in a professional manner. The people of Sudan had to know about this vile situation well before 2,000 animals had piled up.
