Lubbock Economy In Downward Spiral by Clif Burnett

The new economic indicators show the spending spree by government is not translating into better economic data for Lubbock metropolitan area. The consumers are again facing higher gas prices, one dollar per gallon higher since February, and that alone means 10 to 20 bucks per gallon per tank fill-up which is less money for restaurants, retailers and other businesses. Summer is always less business for Lubbock with thousands of college students out of the area and as more elderly get more prescriptions they'll have less disposable income. Local government get over $5 MILLION a month in sales taxes every month(city gets $4 million and county gets $1 million). When consumers get frugal and prudent local elected official get less money in "slush funds". "Slush Funds" are taxes from the many that local government squanders on contractors and government workers fun projects. It's time for less money being taken from the many to benefit the few. This recession is just what is needed to downsize "big government".
