Councilman "Clueless" Klein snubbed,sorta

City Councilman Todd Klein says he feels snubbed by "Visit Lubbock" staffers, who told him to file a written open records request for documents supporting the financial impact of the future visitors center. After his verbal request was denied, Klein filed for the papers he wanted Friday. He says, if city leaders have trouble getting public records, citizens might too. "As an advocate of good governance, I believe that this concerns me that we've got an issue but in this particular situation," Klein said. "I'm disappointed that we would have a council member ask for information and it wouldn't simply be provided unless you jump through some what I see as unnecessary and unusual hoops to jump through. "Demolition of the former South Beach nightclub, the site of the future visitors center began this week. Klein opposes the cost and scope that council has approved for the new center, and wants documentation supporters have on its projected economic impact. Gary Lawrence, CEO of Market Lubbock says "Visit Lubbock," like other taxpayer-supported entities, adheres to the Texas Public Information Act's requirement of a written request for documents.____(Ch.34 copy)

"Clueless" Klein only needed a small half page form that is a basic open records request available on a display board in City Secretary Becky Garza's office. This editor has no less than 5 Open Records Requests pending;

1.All City Council travel expenditures for 2007
2.All Lee Ann Dumbauld travel expenditures for 2007
3.All consultant fees expended in 2007
4.Total cost to install and uninstall red light cams
5.Grant received and number of spycams in city alleys and LOCATIONS of said cameras.

ALL FIVE were submitted on a separate Open Records Requests late in April. City has 10 business days to either release records OR submit to Texas AG for opinion on if records are public. City is now "sitting" on above Opens Records Requests for full 10 business days(2 calender weeks) so this batch of records will be released,hopefully, after the city election. Oh,Todd,Fill That Form Out!
